You upload a paper or paste a DOI, and the Copilot lets you ask questions about the content, get plain-language explanations of equations and methodology, and extract structured data into a table for literature reviews. For grad students and researchers, it compresses the initial what-is-this-paper-saying step significantly.

The literature review table feature is the standout. You can query across a set of papers and get a comparison table of methods, datasets, results, and limitations without copy-pasting each paper's abstract into a spreadsheet. For systematic reviews and meta-analyses, this alone is worth the subscription. Citation handling is careful, and the tool pushes you back to the source text rather than hallucinating a clean summary.

Honest caveats: like any LLM-powered tool on scientific text, the Copilot can still get things wrong on nuanced methodological claims, so reviewers and senior researchers should verify anything load-bearing. Coverage is strongest in life sciences and CS; some niche fields have thinner indexing. The formatting and paraphrasing writer is fine but not a substitute for your own thinking. As a reading and extraction assistant, though, it's one of the more mature tools in the academic AI space.
